Somerford camp 2014 – now taking bookings
Harewood camp 2014 is at Somerford park from Thursday 27th march arrival 12 noon to Sunday 30th march 2014. Camp is aimed at all levels of club riders as represents excellent value compared to commercial camps. If you haven’t been before we have fantastic facilities including hot showers, a centrally heated club house with fully fitted kitchen and Monarch stabling with power hose wash off facilities for the neddies – so its a bit more like glamping than camping really. You must be a member of an area 4 riding club to attend as this fullfils the requirements for insurance.
We have provisionally priced the 4 days at £235, pending confirmation from Somerford re: 2014 pricing, which includes unlimited use of the farm ride, up to 4 lessons, 3 bags of shavings in each stable, haylage, and evening meals. Instructors provisionally booked are - Nik Targett, Linda De Matteo and Tori Peters (dressage only) and a special appearance from our very only Area Chair – Tricky Dicky Thompson. We are also planning a fun Chase me Charlie (if demand) for the Friday night and a themed party night for Saturday and will have lots of free extra activities to keep you entertained throughout the whole weekend such as 1:1 with McTimoney specialists, feeding advice and a horsey weigh bridge. Any other ideas for activities please let us know and we will do our best.
We are able to cater for everyone from the nervous first timer to experienced competitors and do our best to ensure that all groups are evenly matched. Last year we had groups ranging from those who wanted to just do poles on the ground to those who flew fences higher than I would imagine! We have spent particular consideration thinking about supporting the less experienced riders this year who may just want to enjoy the extensive facilities without as many lessons and so have included unlimited use of the 7 mile farm ride in the cost of camp. We can also run escorted farm rides for those who want support hacking round and provide 1:1 coaching for those who run into issues or have a particular problem – eg water/ditches
We are now taking deposits of £75 payable to HCTG – please send cheques with a camp application form to Bobby at 66 Broadgate lane, Horsforth, Leeds. LS18 4AG
We will run a waiting list once we are full. We hope to see you there.
Bobby & Amy
It’s bad news
Mary Halliday, the Landowner at Felixkirk and Sue Emsley have had a discussion this afternoon about the ground conditions, and it is very wet up there and the ground has been badly poached by the cows.
Mary’s comment was ‘I wouldn’t want to take a young horse around the jumps probably not even my old hunter’ also the lorry parking either on the slope or on the dressage field would be very muddy and there is a serious chance of getting stuck.
In view of this we have decided that it would be best to cancel the schooling day on Saturday – the good news is we are planning to run it again in late March / early April as a pre season warm-up.
